Eklutna Bike Ride

Aubrey and her darling children invited us to go biking with them at Eklutna. We’ve never biked out there before, and my kids aren’t the strongest of bikers, but we all decided it would be a fun adventure. Thomas’ bike got stolen from our yard a couple weeks ago, and we haven’t found a replacement yet, but luckily Aubrey said she had a bike he could use!

The adventure really started when I had to put the Tesla bike rack on, and configure the bikes. James was out of town and I was on my own. I mostly figured it out, and had to call James to make sure I was doing it right. He confirmed, then I had jigsaw all the bikes on the back, pulling them off and redoing it until they all fit.

Luckily, we arrived with the bike rack and all of the bikes still securely attached to the Tesla.

Aubrey also let me borrow her bike trailer for Stu. After everything was unloaded and Aubrey installed the bike trailer on my bike we were off…

Almost. It turned out that the bike Aubrey had for Thomas was much bigger than his comfort zone. He got very upset and protested the bike ride. Unfortunately, I did the thing I do too often, and pushed him, telling him he didn’t have a choice. I have a really hard time not pushing my kids to do things I know they are capable of. Kids, I sincerely hope I am not scaring you for life, but hope I am teaching you that you can do more than you think you can.

Off we went, Thomas in tears.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a single picture of Thomas riding the bike because once he got comfortable he went fast, with the big kids and left me in the dust. I love you Thomas!

We had beautiful scenery and Stu requested we stop at this little waterfall.

We turned back just in time, because the rain started just after. It was pouring by the time we got to the cars.

We ended this adventure the best possible way with kids so tired they fell asleep on the way home.

James got home that night, and all the kids said they want to go again someday.
